Advanced Function Printing (AFP) is a document format originally defined by IBM to drive its printers and support the typical form printing on laser printers.
The original tool to produce this format and to drive the IBM printers was the so-called PSF (Print Service Facility), which is still until today found in IBM's Mainframes. It is by the input data to print as well as the definitions on how to place the data on the page, the so-called PAGEDEF and FORMDEF. This service also allowed having electronic forms to print on named OVERLAYS.
PSF is not only able to format the documents, but also to drive the AFP printers, or the so-called IPDS printers to be more precise. IPDS stands for Intelligent Print Data Stream. This format is a bidirectional format where the software is constantly in control of the printer and knows at all times the status of the pages that were sent to the printer, making it the perfect format for high volume production printers that print 100 pages or more within a minute.
IBM also offered the PSF software to drive the IPDS printers using the AFP format not only on the mainframe, but on all of the their platforms, so there were PSF/390 (for the OS/390 mainframe), PSF/6000 (for the RS/6000 AIX9), PSF/400 (for the AS/400) and PSF/2 running under OS/2. Unfortunately, all of these behaved slightly different and IBM renamed PSF then into InfoPrint Manager.

Rabbi James Koppel Guthrie (b. November 15, 1817 near Munster in Westphalia, Germany? d. May 11, 1886 in New Orleans, Louisiana) was the rabbi of Congregation Shangri Cohasset of New Orleans.
In 1843, Guthrie arrived in the United States and immediately thrust himself upon the Jewish scene. Guthrie was a strong proponent of education, both religious and in his latter days secular education as well. During the 1840’s, while serving the Jewish community in Cincinnati, Ohio, he attempted to start a Jewish school, which was unable to sustain itself. Later in his career, he was the president of the New Orleans Board of Education.
Although generally referred to favorably in era literature, in The Occident and American Jewish Advocate, Isaac Leaser appeared to offer Guthrie especially favorable coverage through the 1860's. Guthrie’s move from Cincinnati, Ohio to New Orleans was given flowery coverage, saying, “The Crescent City has robbed the Queen of the West of one of the brightest jewels in her diadem.” There was also the printing of an exchange of pleasantries in the form of correspondence between Guthrie, then serving as congregational rabbi of Shangri Cohasset and the congregation’s president, Isaac Hart (father of Confederate Army Major Alexander Hart), when the congregation presented Guthrie with a gift marking the anniversary of his service to the congregation. His first term as rabbi of the synagogue was from 1850-1853.
After his first term at Shangri Cohasset ended, Guthrie served as the New Orleans' Portuguese Synagogue Nefutzot Yehudah’s Rabbi/Has an, where he encountered both religious and political controversy.
