Pipe bursts in Chevy Chase

The 10-inch pipe broke at 3526 Woodbine Street between LelandStreet and Brookville Road at approximately 2:20 p.m., WSSCspokesman Mike McGill said. Crews were on the scene and working torepair the pipe by 2:50 p.m., he said.

McGill said he expected water service to be restored to residentsby late Monday evening.

The cause of the break was unknown, however, the area includes someof the oldest pipes in the system, McGill said.

Woodbine Street was closed to through-traffic between BrookvilleRoad and Leland Street after the break occurred.

‘‘The whole street looked like it buckled,” saidWoodbine Street resident Sarel Kromer.
