Laptop users look to high tech

VietNamNet Bridge – Vietnamese laptop users expect producers to improve the quality of their products in terms of battery, speed and connectivity, shows a survey by Intel and Vnexpress.net news website.

The survey of 6,266 laptop users was designed to look into the functions of laptops, such as productivity, connectivity, security and battery life, and could be used by producers as a reference to improve their products.

Intel, the world's largest chipmaker, said the survey showed Vietnamese people have higher requirements for a laptop which they use for work and entertainment purposes.

About 46.6% of laptop users said the life of current laptop batteries ranges from 2 to 3 hours. However, Mike Trainor, mobile technology director of Intel, said users needed at least 8 hours but the life of the current lithium-ion battery was much shorter.

Around 1.9% of users surveyed said data security on laptops was not as good as desktop computers while 2.6% agreed that connectivity was not strong enough. 16.4% said the speed of a laptop's Internet connection is slower than the desktop cousin.

Intel Vietnam said that through the survey, producers could study and develop more functions for laptops to satisfy local user demand.

Statistics released by market researcher GfK indicate that the domestic demand for laptops is increasingly high. Foreign brands like IBM, Dell, Acer, Toshiba and HP hold more than 90% of the local laptop market.
